Ambassadors distance themselves from current KWPN policy
Door de berichtgeving van afgelopen dagen zal het u wellicht niet ontgaan zijn dat er binnen het KWPN commotie is ontstaan over de reeds vorig jaar gepubliceerde genoom fokwaarden voor merries en hengsten. Als groep van ambassadeurs hebben wij gemeend ons het afgelopen jaar sterk in te moeten zetten voor onze vereniging in de hoop te komen tot een praktischer fokkerijbeleid waar zowel onze groep als de fokker zich thuis voelt.
Tot onze zeer grote spijt moeten we na meerdere gesprekken concluderen dat er binnen onze vereniging op dit moment geen vertegenwoordiging is van de professionele beroepsgroep en distantiëren wij ons om die reden van het fokkerijbeleid dat op dit moment wordt uitgevoerd. Binnen het bestuur ontbreekt het naar onze mening op dit moment aan kennis om een goed fokkerij beleid aan te sturen
Daar waar de indruk wordt gewekt dat wij tegen het KWPN ageren, willen wij benadrukken dat wij allen een sterk kloppend KWPN hart hebben en juist vanuit deze voorliefde voor het Nederlandse paard onze tijd, kennis en expertise ter beschikking hebben gesteld aan het algemeen bestuur van het KWPN. Het was voor ons dan ook een grote teleurstelling om via de media te moeten vernemen dat er geconcludeerd wordt dat de fokwaarden in de basis juist zijn en met enkele verbeteringen naar een hoger plan getild zullen worden.
Onze interpretatie van het uitgebrachte rapport is een heel andere, namelijk dat de totstandkoming van de huidige genoom fokwaarden op zo’n 23 punten onjuist is, met als een van de belangrijkste conclusies dat de huidige fokwaardenschatting op basis van hoogste stand niet goed aansluit bij ons fokdoel, te weten Grand Prix.
Tijdens een gesprek op 12 april j.l hebben wij nogmaals getracht onze zienswijze over het gehele beleid naar voren te brengen en is ons door het algemeen bestuur voorgehouden dat er op een termijn van ongeveer 2 maanden een besluit dan wel een plan van aanpak zou komen. Alhoewel 1 van de belangrijke conclusies uit het rapport is dat er beter gecommuniceerd moet worden met de achterban heeft het algemeen bestuur toch gemeend binnen 2 dagen met een persbericht naar buiten te moeten treden waaruit blijkt dat onze stem totaal genegeerd wordt. Alle tijd en energie die wij het afgelopen jaar in het KWPN hebben gestoken om te komen tot een praktischer fokkerij beleid is hiermee verspilde moeite geweest.
Uiteraard betreuren wij de ontstane situatie en hopen wij op een later moment weer deel uit te kunnen maken van de besluitvorming binnen het KWPN, ons fokkerijhart blijft kloppen maar voorlopig zullen wij onze eigen weg bewandelen.

Ambassadors distance themselves from current KWPN policy
Due to the news coverage of the past few days, you may have noticed that commotion has arisen within the KWPN regarding the genomic breeding values for mares and stallions. As a group of ambassadors, we have felt the urgent need to make a strong commitment to our KWPN association over the past year, and we all hoped to achieve a more practical breeding policy in which both our group and the KWPN breeders feel confident.
To our very great regret, we have to conclude that within our KWPN association there is currently no representation from the professional group and for that reason we distance ourselves from the breeding policy that is currently being implemented. In our opinion, the board currently lacks the knowledge to manage a good and solid breeding policy.
Where the impression is created that we are agitating against the KWPN studbook, we want to emphasize that we all have a strong beating KWPN heart and it is precisely because of this love for the KWPN horse that we have made our time, knowledge and expertise available to the general board of the KWPN. It was therefore a great disappointment for us to learn through the media that the conclusion is that the breeding values are basically correct and will be raised to a higher level with some improvements.
Our interpretation of the published report is quite different, namely that the establishment of the current genomic breeding values is incorrect on some 23 points, with one of the most important conclusions is, that the current breeding value estimation based on highest standings does not fit well with our KWPN breeding goal; Grand Prix.
During a meeting on April 12, 2023, we once again tried to express our views on the entire policy and were told by the General Board that a decision or plan of action would be made within two months. Although one of the important conclusions of the report is that there should be better communication with the members, the general board has decided to issue a press release within two days which shows that our voice is totally ignored. All the time and energy we put into the KWPN last year to come to a more practical breeding policy has been wasted.
Of course we regret the situation that has arisen and we hope to be able to be part of the decision making within the KWPN at a later time. Our KWPN breeding hearts keep beating but for now we will go our own way.
